Types of hair loss
Circular hair loss is characterised by one or more round or oval-shaped bald patches on the scalp of the person affected. It is generally assumed to be an autoimmune disease, the exact causes of which have not yet been fully researched. This type of hair loss can occur at any age.
Untreated circular hair loss can end in alopecia totalis.
Androgenetic alopecia is the most common cause of hair loss, with an incidence of around 75%. It mainly affects older people, but 38% of men and 17% of women between the ages of 35 and 45 already show signs of this form of hair loss.
The clinical picture of androgenetic alopecia is different in men and women.
If the entire scalp is affected, we speak of diffuse hair loss. Approximately 45% of all women are affected by this type of hair loss at least once in their lives. The reason for this is an insufficient supply of essential micronutrients to the still intact hair roots via the blood circulation.
